Connecting your Stripe account
Why you need Stripe, how to connect your salon's account on the Setup tab, and how to read your connection status.
To accept card payments — online in your shop, for bookings, at the front desk, or for memberships — you need to connect your own Stripe account. Stripe is the payment processor that securely handles card details and moves money into your bank account; you don't need to have used it before.
Why you need this
Once you connect Stripe:
- Payments go straight to your own bank account — the money never passes through us.
- You get your own full Stripe dashboard, with every payment, statement, and payout available to you directly from Stripe.
- You pay Stripe's standard card-processing fees directly (the same fees any business pays Stripe) — there's no extra fee from us on top.
- Because the account is fully yours, you're responsible for your own payments and payouts, just like any business with its own Stripe account.
You only need to do this once per salon.
Step-by-step: connecting your account
Open the Payments page
In your salon admin, go to Payments. The page opens on the Setup tab, with a card titled Stripe account.
Start setup
Under Stripe account you'll see a button to get started:
- If a short onboarding form can open right there on the page, the button reads Set up payments (or Continue setup if you've already created an account and are picking up where you left off). Click it and the onboarding form appears directly below, inside the Payments page — you never leave your salon admin.
- Next to it, you may also see a smaller link — or continue on Stripe's site — if you'd rather fill in the same details on Stripe's own onboarding page instead and be brought back automatically when you're done.
- If the in-page form isn't available for your environment, you'll just see one button — Connect with Stripe (or Continue Stripe setup) — which takes you to Stripe's own onboarding page and brings you back to the Payments page afterwards.
Either way, you're entering the same information Stripe asks every business for: your business or personal details, address, and the bank account you want payouts sent to.
Finish Stripe's questions
Stripe will ask for things like:
- Your business (or individual) legal details and address
- A bank account to receive payouts
- Identity verification (for example, a form of ID)
If you get interrupted partway through, that's fine — come back to the Payments page any time and click Continue setup (or Continue Stripe setup) to pick up where you left off.
Wait for Stripe to review
After you submit your details, Stripe reviews them. This is usually quick, but can occasionally take a little longer if Stripe needs extra verification.
Checking your status
Back on the Setup tab, the Stripe account card tells you exactly where things stand, in plain language:
| What you'll read | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Connect your salon's Stripe account to receive card payments." | You haven't started setup yet. |
| "Your Stripe account is created, but Stripe still needs some details from you before it can accept payments." | Stripe needs more information from you — see the list below. |
| "You've submitted everything Stripe asked for. Stripe is reviewing your account — card payments switch on automatically once it's approved." | You're done; Stripe is checking your details. |
| "Your Stripe account can accept payments." | You're fully set up and ready to take payments. |
| "Your Stripe account can accept payments. Payouts to your bank aren't enabled yet — finish the setup to receive your money." | Card payments work, but you still need to finish a step before money can reach your bank account. |
Below that message, a short checklist tracks four milestones, each with a checkmark once it's done:
- Stripe account created
- Business details submitted
- Card payments activated by Stripe
- Payouts to your bank enabled
If Stripe is waiting on something from you, you'll see an amber box titled Stripe still needs from you, listing exactly what's missing — and marking anything overdue so you know what to prioritize. If Stripe itself is still checking something (nothing for you to do), you'll see a Stripe is checking box instead, listing what's being reviewed.
Once you're fully connected, a green Connected badge appears next to the setup buttons.
If your salon is running on a Stripe "test mode" / sandbox key, you'll see a note explaining that you should finish setup with Stripe's test details to try out test card payments — no real money moves until you switch to a live Stripe account.
You can choose which parts of your business accept card payments (shop, bookings, till, memberships) and turn them on even before Stripe finishes reviewing your account — see Choosing how customers pay. Those areas will only actually start taking card payments once your account can accept payments.
Managing your account afterwards
Once you're connected, extra tabs appear at the top of the Payments page, next to Setup:
- Transactions — every card payment across your shop, bookings, memberships and till, with refunds. See Refunds.
- Card readers — if your salon has the front-desk Dashboard turned on, this tab lets you pair physical card readers. See Card readers and in-person payments.
- Payouts — see when money is being sent to your bank account and adjust your payout schedule.
- Payments & disputes — view your payments and any disputes directly from Stripe.
- Account — update your business details.
The last three tabs only appear once your environment supports Stripe's in-page account tools; if they're missing, use the or continue on Stripe's site link instead to manage the same things directly on stripe.com.
Because this is your own full Stripe account, Stripe may occasionally ask you to confirm your login for sensitive actions inside these tabs — that's expected and keeps your account secure. You may also sometimes see a message banner from Stripe itself at the top of the Payments page, for example if Stripe needs you to confirm something about your account — read and follow it the same way you would anything else on this page.
For changing which payment methods you accept (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and so on), use the Manage payment methods link next to the Connected badge, which opens your Stripe dashboard's payment methods settings in a new tab. This applies across your whole salon — shop, bookings, memberships and the till all share the same set of accepted payment methods, for example cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, MobilePay or Klarna, depending on what's available for your country and currency.
