What Is the Front Desk App?
An overview of the Dashboard — the separate app front-desk staff use to run day-to-day salon operations, and how owners turn it on.
If you work the till, greet walk-ins, or manage appointments during the day, you probably don't need (or want) access to your salon's full admin settings. That's what the Dashboard — also called the front desk app — is for.
A separate app, built for the till
Your salon actually has two apps:
- The admin app is where the owner sets up the salon: business details, pricing, staff records, payment setup, and which features are switched on.
- The Dashboard (front desk app) is where day-to-day work happens: checking the schedule, taking walk-ins, ringing up sales, and checking in members.
The Dashboard has its own web address and its own sign-in — it's a separate app on purpose, so the person running the till during a busy afternoon isn't digging through admin settings to find what they need, and isn't able to accidentally change something they shouldn't.
Turning it on for your salon (for owners)
Before any staff member can sign in to the Dashboard, you need to switch it on and choose what it can do — both steps happen in your own admin app, not the front desk app.
Open your admin app and go to Features. Find Dashboard in the list ("Run daily appointments, checkout, and customer communication from one workspace") and switch it on. If you also want your front desk to manage appointments, make sure Booking is switched on too — appointment management on the desk depends on it.
Go to the salon's Dashboard settings page. Here you choose which tools the front desk is allowed to use, each with its own on/off switch:
- Appointment management — create, edit, confirm, cancel, and complete bookings. This switch stays off and greyed out until the Booking feature itself is switched on.
- Cashier — take in-salon payments for services and, if your webshop is set up, Shop products.
Turn on whichever your front desk should have, then select Save settings.
If you offer memberships, switch on the Membership feature from the same Features screen. There's no separate toggle for it on the Dashboard settings page — once Membership is on for the salon, member check-in and membership sales simply appear on the front desk.
Still on the Dashboard settings page, use Payment setup to connect card payments (so staff can take card payments at the till or on a card reader), and Open Dashboard to see the front desk app yourself before handing it to staff.
Changes you make here take effect on the front desk app right away — there's nothing for staff to refresh or reinstall.
What you can do here
Once the front desk is switched on and configured, the Dashboard gives whoever is staffing it:
- A view of today's appointments (if appointment management is on)
- A till/point-of-sale screen to ring up services and products, and an invoices screen to look back at past sales (if the cashier is on)
- Membership check-in and membership sales (if Membership is on for the salon)
- A quick look at salon info and payment status
